Duration: Approved until end Dec 26 (renewable)

Location: Combination of Site based Bridgwater, Somerset (1-2 times per fortnight), AND Aztec West, Bristol AND Remote working

All-inclusive gross daily rate(s): DoE - up to £424 thro' Umbrella (PAYE INSIDE IR35) or £317 (PAYE Direct Morson Edge inc. plus 36 days accrued holiday inc. Bank holidays)

Reports to: Nuclear Safety Lead

Morson Edge are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation within the Energy sector for a Nuclear Safety Engineer (Junior/Mid-Level experience) on a part-time contract basis. The role-holder will join an established team for work associated with a Nuclear New Build infrastructure Project in the SW Region.

Job Purpose / Overview

To support the development of the Operational Nuclear Safety capability for the Project. This will include input during design, construction, commissioning, and the preparations for operation. The Nuclear Safety Engineer will support the project to ensure that nuclear safety requirements are met and will strive to achieve world best practices identified by benchmarking with other industry leaders and industry programmes.

Contextual Information - Operating Environment

The role sits within the Pre-operations department within Nuclear New Build. The Pre-operations department is responsible for ensuring that the Project has the facilities, trained people and procedures needed prior to starting operation. The NNB Pre-Operations Directorate is responsible for the development of the operational capability for the Project, including training programmes, equipment, facilities, policies, and procedures. The role holder will represent the operator for activities relating to nuclear safety.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Supporting the maintenance and development of the Operational and Hazard technical specifications by providing safety case expertise and advice
  • Overseeing implementation of the nuclear safety case as a key project stakeholder
  • Providing technical advice to the project on reactor physics, core physics testing and fuel management
  • Providing oversight of management of nuclear safeguards and accounting of nuclear material
  • Governance & oversight over matters relating to nuclear safety

Criteria:

Essential:

  • HND (or equivalent) as minimum in a science or engineering subject with subsequent industry experience, preferably degree qualified (or equivalent) desired- in a science or engineering subject in a relevant field.
  • Understanding of Nuclear power operations
  • Proven communication skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and within allocated budgets
  • Pragmatism

Desirable:

  • Familiar with Reactor Physics
  • Strong Computer literacy skills
  • Understanding of Management systems
