Morson Edge are partnering with a leading organisation within the Energy sector to recruit experienced Commercial Managers on a contract basis, to join its established project team based at Aztec West, Bristol. These positions support a major Nuclear New Build programme currently progressing through the installation phase in Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role on one of the UKs most significant infrastructure projects while benefiting from a flexible hybrid working arrangement.
The Role
Working within a small, collaborative commercial team, you will provide commercial support for the successful management of the Responsible Designer (RD) contract. Acting as the primary commercial point of contact for project and engineering stakeholders, you will take ownership of designated areas of the contract and support the activities undertaken by the Commercial Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver all commercial activities in accordance with project commercial procedures and governance requirements.
- Act as an Intelligent Customer, ensuring stakeholder expectations are met in relation to commercial integrity, value for money, and fair treatment of the supply chain.
- Foster strong, collaborative relationships with suppliers and contractors, promoting partnership-based working principles.
- Lead the commercial management of allocated contract scopes throughout the execution phase, including the administration and assessment of Compensation Events.
- Manage commercial relationships across the contract portfolio, encouraging mutual trust, cooperation, and equitable outcomes to support timely resolution of commercial issues.
- Assess, report on, and manage the scope, duration, and financial impact of Compensation Events in line with contractual requirements.
- Support the successful delivery of contract final accounts and close-out activities, ensuring formal completion of project contracts and capturing commercial lessons learned.
- Provide commercial guidance and support to Project Managers to ensure effective contract administration and governance.
- Promote a strong nuclear safety culture by understanding the nuclear baseline and ensuring appropriate allocation and awareness of nuclear safety responsibilities across the team.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong commercial acumen, contract management expertise, and the ability to operate effectively within a complex stakeholder environment.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven commercial and contract management experience with a strong understanding of industry best practices.
- Demonstrable experience successfully administering and managing contracts, particularly NEC3 Professional Services Contracts (PSC).
- Strong understanding of contract performance measurement, risk management, change control, and claims management.
- Excellent analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across a complex project environment.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Proven ability to make sound commercial decisions involving significant financial value.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline.
- Professional membership with RICS, CICES, IOB, or equivalent.
- Highly proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and SAP.
