Location: Hinkley C site near Bridgwater, Somerset (4-5 days/week on site)

Reporting to: Material Handling Manager
Our client, a prestigious, internationally renowned engineering consultancy, is looking for a skilled plant construction or industrial site operations professional with proven experience in the supervision of site logistics and/or material handling teams to work as Material Handling Supervisor in support of their client's delivery of their UK nuclear power station construction project. This role will be associated with the delivery of the turbine buildings for the project.
Candidates should possess knowledge of different types of materials and proper handling methods to support construction and commissioning activities.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
- Supervision of material handling and laydown area activities;
- Implementation of material movement procedures;
- Coordination with internal and external partners;
- Operational reporting to the Material Handling Manager.
Material and Laydown Area Supervision
- Supervise and control all materials from arrival at site / laydown area / warehouse to handover to erection / commissioning or other parties;
- Ensure correct use and daily update of MTA software, registering and recording materials on site;
- Implement and maintain the material storage plan defined by the Material Handling Manager;
- Support training of subcontractors and site personnel in use of MTA;
- Supervise inspection of incoming goods and report shortages or damage immediately;
- Supervise laydown area preparation, covered storage and housekeeping;
- Enforce material security control on laydown areas;
- Implement material delivery and handover procedures;
- Support procedures for storage and handover of spare parts in liaison with project management teams;
- Verify completeness of delivery documentation (packing list, Quality Release Certificate, Purchase Order where relevant);
- Initiate obtaining of missing documentation from suppliers where required;
- Record and report transport damage and support loss adjuster processes prior to material release;
- Supervise packing rubbish removal activities;
- Maintain daily logs recording all material events to support claims or disputes;
- Ensure cleanliness and easy retrieval of materials from laydown areas / warehouse;
- Ensure ITNS-I materials are stored as per manufacturer recommendations.
Coordination on Material Movement
- Coordinate day-to-day shipment and material movements on site;
- Supervise material handling teams including subcontractor personnel;
- Implement procedures for receipt of materials, storage and release to erection subcontractors in cooperation with Construction Managers;
- Apply store control and stock control procedures;
- Maintain material schedules and interfaces;
- Identify deviations from delivery schedules and report promptly to the Material Handling Manager;
- Maintain traceability of materials received and released at all times.
Quality & EHS
- Ensure compliance with site material management procedures and standards;
- Supervise correct storage, transportation and handover of materials;
- Ensure subcontractors under material handling scope comply with site EHS requirements;
- Implement site EHS policies, safety procedures, work instructions and local regulations;
- Enforce safe working practices for lifting operations, vehicle movement and high-risk activities;
- Ensure lifting equipment is tested and certified before use;
- Maintain traceability of material damage and shortages;
- Support procedures for shipping and local transport;
- Verify existence of material certificates and transfer to QA department as required;
- Support Positive Material Identification when instructed.
Reporting
- Provide feedback on material receipt, stock status and movement to the Material Handling Manager, including required site reporting systems.
Key Performance Indicators
- Timely and accurate material receipt and release;
- Prompt escalation of disruptions or abnormalities related to materials;
- Promotion of “We put Quality First”, EHS “All Together”, and Nuclear Safety Culture.
Specific Functional / Technical Authority
- Supervise site material handling infrastructure and resources;
- Allocate daily tasks to material handling personnel;
- Escalate abnormal or unsafe situations and recommend work suspension when required.
