We're now looking for a Skilled PSV Shift Engineer to join the Hemel Hempstead depot, playing a key role in maintaining fleet and overseeing engineering activity on shift.
The Role
As a PSV Shift Engineer, you'll combine hands-on engineering expertise with leadership responsibility. You'll ensure vehicles are maintained to the highest standards while coordinating workshop activity, supporting fitters, and keeping services running smoothly. This is a varied, fast-paced role ideal for an experienced engineer who takes pride in quality, safety, and teamwork.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily vehicle inspections, identifying defects and safety issues
- Respond to on-road breakdowns, diagnosing faults and completing minor repairs
- Support planned and unplanned maintenance in the workshop environment
- Organise and prioritise jobs based on operational needs and resource availability
- Oversee and support workshop fitters and manage external contractors
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, legal, and the clients engineering standards
- Maintain accurate service sheets, inspection reports, and maintenance records
- Monitor stock levels of materials and components
- Work closely with operations and wider teams to meet deadlines and improve performance
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe depot environment
What We're Looking For
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in PSV (Public Service Vehicle) or HGV Engineering, with time-served experience
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
- Sound knowledge of industry standards and health & safety legislation
- Experience leading or organising workshop staff is highly desirable
- Confident working independently and following technical instructions
- Comfortable using computerised maintenance systems
- Physically fit and flexible to work rotating shifts, including weekends
- A proactive, accountable approach with strong communication skills
Shift Pattern
5 days over 7, rotational early and late shifts. Shift coverage between 04:00 – 00:30.
Pay & Benefits
- £25.75 per hour
- Overtime paid at time-and-a-half (£38.62 per hour)
- Full-time, permanent position
