Our client has secured a significant programme of work across the water sector to support the AMP8 investment cycle, following appointment as a key delivery partner on a major long-term framework with United Utilities. The programme will deliver £5.5bn of investment between 2025–2030 (AMP8) and 2030–2035 (AMP9), covering a wide range of water and wastewater infrastructure schemes across the North West and Cumbria.

Projects will vary in size and complexity, spanning both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets across water and wastewater sites, delivered collaboratively alongside wider framework partners.

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead site operations and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget. This is a site-based role in Windermere, ideal for an experienced construction professional with a strong background in civil engineering and utilities, preferably within the wastewater sector.

The Role

As Construction Manager, you will take ownership of site construction activities, providing leadership across all operational aspects of delivery. You will be responsible for ensuring works are executed safely and in line with programme requirements, specifications and quality standards, while managing engineering teams and subcontractors to maintain productivity and performance. Working closely with the wider project leadership team, you will play a key role in driving delivery excellence across a major long-term infrastructure programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all on-site construction activities to ensure safe, efficient and compliant delivery
  • Provide strong construction leadership across multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors
  • Promote a safety-first culture, leading by example and ensuring best practice is embedded across site operations
  • Drive a Right First Time approach to quality, minimising defects and avoiding rework
  • Collaborate with the wider project leadership team to support successful project delivery
  • Support the Project Manager across all construction-related matters, including commissioning and handover activities
  • Coordinate planning, procurement and production control activities to maintain programme performance
  • Manage subcontractor activities and ensure delivery aligns with project standards and requirements

About You

We're looking for a proactive and experienced construction professional with a strong technical background and a proven ability to lead teams in complex project environments. Experience within the water or wastewater sector would be highly advantageous, particularly within a principal contractor environment.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Civil Engineering
  • Experience working within a Principal Contractor environment
  • Strong knowledge of construction standards, procedures and site delivery practices
  • Experience managing and coordinating subcontractors and site teams
  • Understanding and practical experience of Temporary Works procedures
  • Strong understanding of construction handover and commissioning processes
  • Experience applying Lean principles and driving continuous improvement
  • Strong leadership, communication and team management skills
