We are recruiting Assistant and Building Services Engineers with an electrical bias for a leading UK infrastructure consultancy. You will contribute to the design and delivery of electrical building-services solutions across infrastructure and Ministry of Justice projects, including prisons and other secure operational facilities. The position is suitable for either a developing engineer seeking structured progression or an experienced Building Services Engineer ready to take responsibility for their own designs and project deliverables.
Key responsibilities
- Design electrical building-services systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, security systems and associated infrastructure.
- Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and equipment schedules.
- Support projects from survey and concept design through detailed design, construction and handover.
- Undertake site surveys, inspections and assessments of existing electrical installations.
- Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, architectural, structural and other disciplines.
- Develop practical solutions for new-build, refurbishment and upgrade projects.
- Use electrical calculation, design and modelling software.
- Support technical reviews and construction-stage queries.
- Identify design hazards and contribute to CDM risk-management processes.
- Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant industry guidance.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and operational stakeholders.
- Manage assigned tasks against agreed quality, budget and programme requirements.
About you
- A degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience designing electrical building-services systems.
- Knowledge of power distribution, lighting and associated building infrastructure.
- Experience preparing calculations and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit and BIM methodologies.
- An understanding of Building Regulations, relevant British Standards and CDM requirements.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Membership of, or progress toward membership of, CIBSE, the IET or another appropriate professional institution.
Previous consultancy experience would be advantageous, together with experience of public-sector, justice, defence, healthcare, education, transport or other operationally sensitive buildings. Candidates must be capable of obtaining the necessary Ministry of Justice security clearance.
