Morson Edge are delighted to present a contract opportunity for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join our client's established Project team. All work is associated with the construction of a major energy infrastructure Project in Somerset. Hybrid working option with 3 days office attendance and 2 days working from home.
The Opportunity
As Senior Commercial Manager, you'll take ownership of the commercial success of each contract assigned to you. From the very start, you'll play a key role in supporting the procurement process during contract creation, ensuring smooth pre-award activities that lead to successful contract awards. Once contracts move into execution, you'll be driving performance, managing risks, and steering contracts to successful completion. Your focus will be on maximising operational and financial outcomes while safeguarding against commercial risks, all to support the safe and cost-effective delivery of the programme and wider business objectives.
Who You Are
- You will be decisive, commercially astute and delivery focused.
- Proven expertise in commercial and contract management, with a track record of successful outcomes.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to make sound decisions on matters of significant financial value.
- Solid understanding of contract performance, risk management, change/claim processes, and common Forms of Contract in the power construction industry.
- Keen eye for detail, with experience using Excel and commercial management systems to analyse costs, forecasts, and contractors' submissions.
- Ability to professionally challenge progress metrics and contractors' programmes while maintaining strong relationships and collaborating with delivery teams to achieve best value.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting the procurement process during contract creation, including defining requirements, reviewing scope and value, and contributing to ITT preparation, evaluation and negotiation.
- Ensuring technical and commercial alignment of specifications with contract terms, and engaging with key stakeholders across procurement, delivery, finance and legal functions.
- Leading the commercial management of contracts post award, administering scope, schedules, pricing, payments, variations, disputes, claims and supplier relationships in line with business procedures.
- Driving progress and cost management through reporting, reviews and risk mitigation, while maintaining accurate commercial files and correspondence.
- Leading contract closure, including commercial completion, performance assessment and capturing lessons learnt for continuous improvement.
Criteria
- Degree qualified in quantity surveying/commercial management (or similar)
- RICS or equivalent - highly desirable
- Previous experience of working across complex, major, high value Projects within a regulated environment - highly beneficial
- Procurement management experience - beneficial
