We are looking to recruit a Test Engineer to conduct comprehensive testing of Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) equipment. This role supports the validation, verification, and performance assessment of PNT systems to ensure operational reliability and compliance with mandated standards. This is a 6-month (0.5 FTE) role commencing October. Flexibility to adjust working days within the week may be required to meet testing schedules. Your primary place of work will be Filton, Bristol, but you will be expected to travel to various UK locations to engage with end-users and conduct test events on a regular basis. It is envisaged there will be up to 3 weeks of overseas travel.
Core Duties
- Operate at SFIA Level 4, demonstrating autonomy, influence, and managing complexity in test activities.
- Create, plan, prepare, and execute test plans and procedures for PNT equipment in accordance with approved technical specifications.
- Conduct functional, performance, and environmental testing to assess equipment reliability and accuracy.
- Identify, document, and report faults, anomalies, and deviations from expected performance.
- Collaborate with engineering, development, and operational teams to support troubleshooting and corrective actions.
- Produce and maintain detailed test records, logs, and reports to support audit and certification processes.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety, security, and quality standards throughout all testing activities.
- Provide technical input to improve test methodologies and equipment design based on test outcomes.
Deliverables
- Test plans and procedures for each testing phase.
- Regular progress reports and a final test report summarising findings and recommendations.
- Documentation of all test results, including anomalies and suggested corrective actions.
Miscellaneous
- Security Check (SC) mandatory.
- Sole UK national (must not hold a dual nationality passport).
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge:
- Good knowledge of antenna radiation pattern modelling and anechoic chamber utilisation.
- Proficiency in MATLAB modelling software.
Skills:
- Proven experience in testing and validation of navigation, positioning, or timing equipment, preferably A-PNT systems.
- Strong understanding of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), and related technologies.
- Competence in test equipment operation, data analysis, and reporting tools.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, specifications, and standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
