Due to increased demand, our defence client are now looking to expand the engineering team based in Filton. As a Solution Developer, you will provide the core engineering resource within a lab-based integration environment, bringing a technical background in systems integration, communication systems engineering and networking. We are particularly keen to speak to engineers with Tactical Data Link experience. All roles are suited to ex-military, or those with experience of working within a military environment.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Integrating hardware and software components into tactical military communication systems.
  • Supporting the Solution Architect in creating the system architecture and lower-level system and sub-system designs.
  • Develop and integrate communication systems against designs.
  • Perform unit testing and debugging in support of verification and validation.
  • Support the Solution Tester in defining appropriate Tests.
  • Collaborating with wider project and engineering stakeholders to realise requirements into solutions.
  • Engage with the customer’s TDL SME to ensure coherence is achieved across the user base.
  • Support the customer’s TDL SME at Testing events, Acceptance events & Demonstrations.

Requirements:

  • Windows/Linux based management systems responsible for the provisioning of Android devices.
  • Integration and testing of ATAK Plugins and Applications into system designs.
  • Comprehension of JavaScript Object Notation, Command Prompt and PowerShell.
  • Tactical Data Links - Link16 and VMF.

Skills:

  • Tactical radios (HF, VHF, UHF, MESH, MANET), primarily in a dismounted setting.
  • Application of TCP/IP Networking fundamentals to support MANET-focussed communication plans.
  • Provide Tactical Data Link (Link 16 and Variable Message Format) expertise to the Solution Authority to enable operational coordination of DACAS and Indirect Ground Fires.
  • Support to the planning, management and delivery of work packages using tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Maintenance and input to technical publications and design documentation.
  • Hands-on deployment and troubleshooting skills, ideally in a field environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will need to hold a UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level prior to starting; the client will sponsor a new application if you are not currently cleared.
