The Opportunity:
Our Client is looking for an experienced and motivated HR Advisor (maternity cover contract) to join their Shared Services team, supporting a diverse and growing workforce within a fast-paced rail and civil engineering environment. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in delivering a high-quality, people-focused HR service, supporting colleagues and managers across the full employee lifecycle. The Role:
As HR Advisor, you will provide expert guidance and day-to-day HR support across the business, ensuring a consistent, compliant and people-centric approach. You'll work closely with colleagues across HR, Recruitment and the wider business, delivering a responsive and professional service while helping to continuously improve processes and employee experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- HR & Employee Support: Deliver first-line HR advice across the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, absence management, employee relations and family leave. Provide a responsive and high-quality service to managers and employees across multiple sites. Manage HR queries via the shared inbox, ensuring timely and accurate responses. Maintain and update HR systems (Cascade), ensuring data integrity and accurate reporting. Support with HR reporting and insights to inform business decisions. Assist with absence management, disciplinary and grievance processes. Prepare documentation, attend meetings and provide note-taking support where required. Contribute to continuous improvement of HR processes and service delivery.
- Recruitment & Onboarding Support: Support end-to-end recruitment activity, including advertising, screening, interview coordination and offer management. Work collaboratively with the Recruitment Manager on attraction campaigns across digital platforms and events. Build and maintain relationships with recruitment partners and stakeholders. Ensure a positive and inclusive candidate experience throughout the recruitment journey. Support onboarding processes, including contracts and induction materials. Track recruitment activity and provide data to support KPIs and planning. Promote fair, inclusive and diverse hiring practices aligned to business values.
- Policy, Process & Engagement: Support the development and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures and standard operating processes. Contribute to the creation of self-service tools and knowledge resources to support managers and employees. Promote engagement initiatives that enhance employee experience and understanding of HR processes.
- Diversity & Inclusion: Support delivery of diversity and inclusion initiatives and engagement forums. Contribute to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels respected, supported and able to succeed. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to drive meaningful progress in D&I.
About You:
You will bring strong HR generalist experience, with a proactive and collaborative approach. You'll be confident providing advice, building relationships and supporting a wide range of people-related activities. You will also have:
- Previous experience in a HR Advisor or similar role
- Solid understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice
- CIPD Level 5
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Desirable: Experience within construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors
- Familiarity with Cascade HR system
