We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading team working on AMP8 projects within the civil engineering sector, specifically supporting United Utilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to progress to Commercial Manager, making it ideal for candidates looking to develop their commercial leadership skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the full commercial management of civil engineering projects, including cost control, contract administration, procurement, and risk management. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual requirements. Your role will involve preparing valuations, managing variations and claims, forecasting costs, and supporting junior commercial staff development.

This position requires strong commercial acumen, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of NEC contracts and construction law. You will play a key role in identifying and realising commercial opportunities while mitigating risks, contributing to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

Skills:
  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, preferably within utilities or water sectors
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and contract administration
  • Commercial management including cost control, forecasting, and budget management
  • Subcontract procurement, negotiation, and management
  • Preparation and agreement of valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
  • Risk management and value engineering
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior commercial staff
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, able to work under pressure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Software/Tools:
