A leading Financial Services organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support the continued evolution of its enterprise data platform. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly technical, hands-on engineer with a strong background across both legacy Microsoft BI technologies and modern cloud data engineering tools.

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, building and maintaining scalable data solutions while supporting the organisation’s migration from on-premise infrastructure to modern cloud-based environments. This role requires someone who is equally comfortable working with established SQL Server technologies as they are with modern orchestration and transformation tooling.

You will be responsible for developing robust ETL and ELT pipelines using Python and SQL, orchestrating workflows through Apache Airflow and implementing scalable transformation logic using DBT. Working closely with both technical and business stakeholders, you will help translate complex requirements into efficient and maintainable data solutions that support analytics, reporting and strategic decision making.

The environment remains heavily data-centric and infrastructure-aware, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who has continued to work hands-on with SQL Server technologies in recent years. Strong experience across SSIS, SSRS, SSAS and advanced T-SQL is essential, alongside experience supporting migration programmes from legacy on-prem platforms into cloud ecosystems.

The role also involves working within Unix/Linux environments for scripting, deployment and scheduling activities, alongside maintaining CI/CD processes and supporting best practices across version control, testing and documentation. You will collaborate across cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of data systems and maintain high standards of performance, governance and reliability.

To be considered, candidates should demonstrate strong commercial experience in Data Engineering within complex enterprise environments. You will have advanced Python programming skills for data pipelines, APIs and automation, alongside proven hands-on experience with Apache Airflow including DAG creation, orchestration and optimisation. Strong DBT experience covering models, macros, testing and documentation is also required.

Applicants must possess deep SQL Server expertise with recent hands-on experience across T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS and SSAS. Experience with ETL/ELT development, data warehousing and modern BI tooling such as Power BI, Tableau or Qlik is also highly desirable. Exposure to Docker, Agile delivery methodologies and CI/CD pipelines would be advantageous.

Previous experience within Financial Services or another regulated environment would be beneficial, particularly within organisations undergoing large-scale data transformation and cloud migration initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to join a business investing significantly in its data capabilities, offering exposure to both modern cloud technologies and complex legacy systems within a high-performing engineering environment.
