Morson Edge have partnered with a Global Tech organisation in their search for a Head of Site Reliability Engineering & Infrastructure to lead their SRE and Infrastructure capability within a modern, AWS-based environment.
This role suits a senior engineering leader who enjoys staying close to the technology, while also shaping direction, standards, and long-term reliability strategy. You won’t be expected to live in the weeds every day — but you will be comfortable engaging at a technical level when it matters.
Based in Manchester, you’ll work closely with engineering, product, and security leadership to ensure our platform remains resilient, scalable, and ready for growth.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for both the day-to-day reliability of the platform and the evolution of our SRE and infrastructure practices over time. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the SRE and Infrastructure function, setting direction and priorities
- Balancing hands-on technical involvement with strategic planning and leadership
- Shaping and owning our AWS infrastructure and reliability roadmap
- Defining and embedding SRE best practices, including monitoring, alerting, incident management, and capacity planning
- Establishing and evolving SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets in partnership with engineering teams
- Acting as a senior technical voice in architecture discussions and operational decision-making
- Supporting incident response and post-incident reviews, with a focus on long-term improvement
- Developing, mentoring, and empowering a high-performing engineering team
Experience
- Experience in a senior SRE, Infrastructure, or Platform leadership role
- Strong, practical experience operating production systems in AWS
- Solid Linux systems and networking expertise (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, load balancing)
- Background designing or supporting highly available, distributed systems
- Good understanding of SRE principles and how to apply them pragmatically
- Experience with automation and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- Ability to operate comfortably at both a technical and strategic level
Nice to Have
- Container and orchestration experience (Kubernetes, EKS, ECS)
- Experience scaling platforms, teams, or operational maturity
- Exposure to security, compliance, or regulated environments
