The Retail Trading Standards Manager will be responsible for supporting our stores in meeting trading standards and consumer protection requirements, defending our brand and upholding customer expectations. An important member of the Corporate Services department, you will actively engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to drive continuous improvement in our Trading Standards compliance. This position follows a hybrid model with a 4.5 day working week.
Our teams work from our vibrant head office in Bradford for three days and remotely for a day and a half, Monday to Friday. Hilmore House, our head office, offers convenient amenities, including a subsidised on-site restaurant, coffee shop, convenience and sample store, a prayer room, free parking, and frequent company wide events and promotions. Applicants should live within a reasonable commuting distance of our office.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Work with senior stakeholders across the business to agree effective, risk-based legal compliance systems that align to commercial needs of the Company and enable regulatory requirements to be met economically and in a practical manner.
- Build strong relationships with numerous stakeholders at all levels across the business to share the vision of Trading Standards compliance and encourage cross functional working to ensure compliance is incorporated into everything we do and risks are managed.
- Provide impactful management reports and information, giving stakeholders across the company clear, concise and relevant Trading Standards compliance information to enable them to take action in priority areas.
- Support the retail audit programme, contributing to audit protocols to ensure stores are diligently assessed against relevant criteria and that the root cause of under-performance is resolved.
- Establish proactive measures and monitoring to identify stores falling below expected standard of performance and work with store/regional management and other stakeholders to secure necessary improvements.
- Manage the interface with regulatory and enforcement agencies, maintaining a strong Primary Authority relationship and securing ‘assured advice’ in key areas.
- Develop and secure delivery of effective training and guidance on the Company’s compliance systems and procedures to all store management, colleagues and other compliance colleagues.

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has:
- Chartered Trading Standards Practitioner with a formal Trading Standards qualification: Graduate Diploma in Trading Standards or Post-Graduate Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards.
- Trading Standards Practitioner Certificate (TSPC) and/or Diploma (TSPD).
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of retail and the required Trading Standards compliance controls.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of Trading Standards legislation and experience of successful engagement with enforcing bodies.
- Lead Assessor Qualification with practical experience of auditing retail and/or food processing operations.
- HACCP or other risk management experience.
