We’ve got an opportunity for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our International Seafood Manufacturing Site in Grimsby. The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Morrisons Manufacturing Health & Safety Strategy within the site to drive Health & Safety standards today. They will support our colleagues to ensure everyone’s safety remains a top priority. The role also focuses on integrating with the site leadership team to ensure compliance with Health & Safety, supporting environmental standards, and fostering high colleague engagement across the site. Additionally, the candidate will support continual improvements in the safety culture and all aspects of Health & Safety, including policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure site management, colleagues, and visitors comply with Health and Safety legislation and Morrisons policies and procedures.
- Engage with colleagues at all levels to support continuous improvement in the Health and Safety culture and risk reduction.
- Document, update, and communicate amendments, improvements, or updates to the site’s Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems.
- Act with integrity to promote a strong Health and Safety culture on site.
- Ensure full compliance with operational standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.
- Oversee the site’s Health & Safety Management System, including risk assessments, policies, procedures, and audits tailored to site-specific needs.
- Manage external contacts such as authorities, legal representatives, and consultants.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, and occupational ill health cases, implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
- Support environmental management activities, permits, and authority engagements related to effluent treatment, watercourse drainage, fuel spillages, etc.
- Conduct independent Health & Safety audits and support closure of corrective actions.
- Handle investigations of accidents, incidents, and whistle-blower reports, reporting to HSE as required.
- Escalate high-risk incidents and decisions to management for review.
- Coordinate enforcement contacts and resolve challenges effectively.
- Monitor workplace hygiene and safe working practices.
- Ensure all colleagues are trained appropriately in Health & Safety.
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders, sharing best practices and coaching colleagues to prioritize Health & Safety.
About You
What skills and experience do Morrisons' Health & Safety Specialists need?
- NEBOSH General Certificate required; extensive experience ideally in warehousing, logistics, distribution, or FMCG manufacturing. A NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a fast-paced operational environment, managing multiple stakeholders, and delivering results.
- Proven ability to build relationships, share best practices, and proactively support colleagues in Health & Safety.
- Experience driving KPIs to improve audit scores, accident statistics, and reduce near misses.
- Understanding of the impact of unsafe practices on stock, product, and service levels.
- Knowledge of the wider supply chain ensuring safe working practices are maintained.
- Confident in implementing safe systems of work, including risk assessments and accident reporting.
