Location: Leeds city centre
Due to continued growth, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full-time Legal Assistant to join the employment team of our well-established law firm based in Leeds City Centre. Previous experience of working in a law firm would be a distinct advantage but is not essential.
We are particularly interested in applications from confident self-starters who are not afraid to hit the ground running. Full training will be provided for this new and exciting role.
- To take initial instructions from clients and to advise (after consultation with the supervising partner/solicitors as appropriate) on the legal action and on all alternatives as appropriate, open to the client;
- To keep the client informed as required by the firm’s and department’s procedures;
- To run the file allocated in accordance with the firm’s and department’s procedures;
- To attend conferences with Counsel/Court/Tribunal/Inquest and represent the firm and client as required;
- To provide regular reports.
- To meet on a regular basis with their supervisor to review cases and any other matters relevant to the post holder’s position;
- To report to the post-holder’s supervisors immediately any difficulties being experienced, in particular, those which may lead to a negligence action being taken against the firm and/or a complaint from a client via the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors, and/or the firm’s complaints procedure;
The successful candidate will also be expected to assist with onboarding tasks including:
- Communicating with potential clients by telephone and email
- Opening and closing client files, ensuring that all appropriate compliance and risk checks are completed in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Archiving closed client files
- Processing conflict search requests
- Preparing reports, as requested for the Head of department and COLP
- Providing additional administrative and secretarial support to the Employment team as and when required.>
Key Skills & Experience
The candidate will have:
- previous experience of working in a customer support role is desirable
- strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- proven experience in an administrative role, demonstrating strong organisational skills
- the ability to analyse information and solve problems effectively
- excellent customer service skills with a professional approach
- strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information in a professional and discreet manner
- excellent analytical skills
- advanced working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
- excellent keyboard skills – RSA qualifications would be a distinct advantage but is not essential
