Role Overview

Morris & Spottiswood are one of the leading providers of fit‑out, refurbishment, M&E, facilities management and construction services in the UK. A family firm, we aim high, act responsibly and value our staff and customers. We are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to work within our Flooring Division, based in Glasgow, Almondvale or Leeds, with hybrid working available.

The role of Quantity Surveyor takes commercial responsibility for the contract performance for allocated works to maximise both turnover and profitability. The successful candidate will have experience as an established Quantity Surveyor within a similar business, hold a relevant quantity‑surveying degree, and have experience as an active and effective team member in respect of cost and commercial matters on fast‑track schemes with a high degree of change through the contract period.

Key responsibilities include interfacing with other members of the internal project team, ensuring accuracy and quality to the standard required by the client, and taking commercial responsibility for contract performance to maximise turnover and profitability. The candidate will adhere to robust commercial processes, ensuring that the client obtains continued high quality, value for money and effective change management.

Personal Attributes

The successful individual will be a dedicated and results‑driven surveyor with a successful background in the achievement of profitable contracts. An analytical approach and excellent time‑management skills are imperative to the role. You will have strong commercial acumen with good negotiation skills, and the ability to liaise effectively with clients to maintain and build robust relationships. Good communication skills are required, both written and verbal, for internal and external meetings. You must also have a demonstrable ability to work well as part of a team, interacting positively with colleagues and with internal and external clients.
