McLennan Architecture and Interiors Morris & Spottiswood Ltd is a leading provider of fitout, housing, maintenance and M&E services to the retail, banking, commercial, education, housing and healthcare sectors across Scotland and North West /West of England. Our offices are based in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Warrington and Leeds.
We are currently recruiting an Interior Designer within our McLennan Architecture and Interiors business in London. At McLennan Architecture and Interiors, we have a growing team of designers / Architects who have developed a reputation for our energetic approach in providing clients with a tailored design service to meet their individual project needs, providing a value for money service, while delivering high quality design and functionality to deliver successful buildings and spaces. The successful candidate will be engaged in all design stages within the company’s scope of service. The role involves supporting all design stages, collaborating with the Architectural Director and wider team to design, detail, specify, and deliver new-build and refurbishment projects across sectors (including retail banking, commercial, residential, industrial, and leisure). The candidate will provide technical support from concept through detailed design, assist delivery teams during site/construction phases, and apply best practice in sustainability and health & safety by identifying and mitigating design risks throughout the process.

The successful individual will be a dedicated and results-driven Designer with a minimum of three years of practical project experience in a variety of sectors. Strong leadership and team management skills, coupled with a decisive problem-solving ability and excellent time management skills are imperative to this role. You should have excellent graphic, written and verbal communications skills as you will be required to express your design and specifications graphically, in writing and verbally within the internal design team and to the wider project team and consultants. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate a good track record of working with clients to meet their expectations as well as to deliver for the business.
Key Skills- Experience in delivery of all RIBA stages and on-site works from inception to completion.
- 3+ years practical project and site experience required in a UK based Architectural / design practice.
- Produce quality drawings packages to enable the build.
- Ability to assess and meet client requirements and desires through regular meetings and communications.
- Produce sketches, detail drawings and general arrangement floor plans throughout the RIBA work stages using CAD.
- AutoCAD expertise required and working knowledge of Sketch-Up Pro/BIM/Revit desirable. BIM and Revit training will be provided as required.
- Adhere to national and local building and safety codes with every design element. Strong knowledge of English Planning Legislation and Building Standards. Working knowledge of Scottish Building Standards also preferable.
- Work closely with various colleagues, including architects, engineers, contractors, acousticians, and building inspectors.
- Research specifications, materials and finishes to support design team on technical issues influencing detailed design development.
- Work within project time schedules to coordinate the completion of staged task through to final project completion.
- Conduct on-site visits and site observations and provide recommendations to ensure alignment with design specifications.
- Design and/or select furniture, materials, décor and finishes within project budgetary constraints.
- Degree level qualifications in Architectural Technology and ability to demonstrate the required experience and knowledge of working within the construction industry with 3+ years technical design experience since qualification.
Our standard business hours are 8-5 Monday-Thursday and 8-4 on a Friday (1hr lunch break each day). We have adopted a hybrid working model so you will have flexibility to work in the office (Based in London) and from home. The role will involve working / visiting live site environments to review design delivery and to ensure the site delivery meets the proposed specifications.
What you’ll need- Extensive design experience and the ability to manage and lead small to medium sized projects in a roll-out programme.
- Be fully IT literate in AutoCAD, SketchUp Pro, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel with Revit / BIM experience beneficial (BIM and Revit training can be provided).
