Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Governance and Compliance Manager for our London or Whitstable office, Hybrid Working is also available.
Job Purpose
The Governance and Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring that all account activities operate in line with the clients governance and control requirements, M&S internal policies, regulatory obligations, legal requirements and industry best practice.
The role provides leadership in governance, assurance, compliance and continuous improvement, ensuring robust controls are embedded across all retail project delivery activities.
- Governance & Compliance
- Partner with the Key Account Manager to implement governance, compliance, process improvements and control mechanisms across the account.
- Ensure all projects comply with client governance frameworks, internal policies, assurance requirements, audit standards, legal obligations and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments, identify compliance gaps, coordinate mitigation actions and support continuous improvement of policies and procedures.
- Ensure project documentation is submitted through the appropriate governance channels, meets required standards, and complies with Electronic Data Management System requirements, including consistent file naming.
- Ensure project teams adhere to the PPTM framework, including required processes, policies, submissions and governance milestones.
- Manage and monitor key project milestones through the Key Event Schedule and Smartsheets, raising change control where milestone changes are required.
- Manage client processes via the Smart Sheets platform, including Start on Site Readiness Reports, Gateway Checklists, Change Control, Material Change, Risk Registers and CSQs.
- Raise contractual documentation for execution on Docusign, including PC Certificates.
- Project Assurance & Quality Control
- Oversee governance, assurance and quality control activities across the delivery of retail projects.
- Manage quality control reviews of CP Packs, ensuring consistency, accuracy, compliance and audit readiness.
- Monitor project milestones and governance submissions, responding efficiently to Gateway and EDMS applicable checks.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, including Deep Dive Reviews, Pack Audits and HSQE Audits, and lead remediation of findings.
- Performance & Resource Management
- Analyse KPIs, identify trends and implement improvement initiatives to enhance performance, visibility and delivery outcomes.
- Conduct weekly resource reviews to forecast workload demands and proactively manage capacity 2–3 weeks in advance.
- Deliver governance and compliance training for new team members, driving awareness of requirements and accountability across the team.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, including the use of AI and automation tools to improve efficiency, quality, compliance, productivity and reporting capabilities.
