Working within our successful Family team, this is a role that will see the successful candidate supporting Lawyers and Paralegals with all administration tasks.

Key Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role is to support the team in managing the financial affairs of individuals who lack mental capacity.

  • Be the day to day point of contact for protected persons.
  • Under the supervision of the Matter Controller, seek to instruct our agents to maintain property, repair where needed and liaise regarding property contents or possessions.
  • Under the supervision of the Matter Controller, ensure that bills are paid via online banking, checking client balances regularly to ensure bills are paid and that the client has funds available to do so; if not, advising deputy that funds need to be moved and carrying this out
  • Check invoices against budgets and for compliance with terms and conditions, and ensure legal bills are settled swiftly
  • Reviewing benefits received by clients, applying for benefits where necessary or referring to benefit review agency.
  • Under supervision of the Matter Controller assist with referring clients for local authority financial assessment
  • Ensuring we comply with professional deputy standards checklist on a regular/quarterly basis
  • Identifying clients who need to submit a tax return, instructing an accountant to prepare this and obtaining the relevant documents required.
  • Extensive client liaison – interaction with clients, meetings and appointment greetings.
  • Answering and directing telephone and email enquiries
  • Ensuring that the matter controller/deputy is kept up to date at all times
  • Implementing any recommendations made by your supervisor following monthly file reviews ensuring that these are dealt with promptly
  • To follow the firm’s procedures when recording time and managing the billing process.
  • To meet the firm’s set targets for charging time to clients, achieving the annual fee target by maximising billing every month and thereby ensuring that work in progress is kept to a minimum

  • Education/Knowledge/Experience
    • At least 1 year’s experience of working as a paralegal. Time spent studying relevant area of law would be desirable.

    • Ensuring accuracy in documentation, reports, and operational processes.
