About the Role: We are looking for experienced tax professionals to help evaluate and improve AI systems that reason about tax accounting tasks. This is a flexible 1099 contract role for tax accountants, tax managers, and specialists across federal, state, local, and international tax disciplines. Projects are grounded in real tax artifacts: tax provisions, deferred tax schedules, tax returns, uncertain tax position analyses, and multi-jurisdictional filings. Hourly pay is $90.

What You Will Work On:

  • Reviewing AI-generated tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and uncertain tax position analyses for accuracy and appropriate treatment
  • Evaluating tax return preparation and review outputs across federal, state, local, and international contexts
  • Assessing tax research and memo-quality explanations of tax positions
  • Identifying errors in payroll tax, sales tax, VAT, or nexus analyses
  • Helping define what sound tax judgment looks like for common and complex tax scenarios
  • Contributing realistic tax scenarios and edge cases drawn from your own practice

Expertise We Are Looking For:

  • Candidates should have meaningful experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Tax provision preparation and review under ASC 740
  • Deferred taxes, valuation allowances, and uncertain tax positions
  • Federal, state, local, or international tax return preparation and review
  • Sales tax, payroll tax, VAT, nexus analysis, and multi-jurisdictional filing
  • Entity structure and transaction tax analysis
  • Tax planning and advisory work

Tools and Systems: Familiarity with any of the following is a plus: CCH Axcess, UltraTax, Avalara, Vertex, or common ERP platforms with tax modules such as SAP or Oracle.

You May Be a Good Fit If You:

  • Have 3 or more years of professional tax experience in public accounting or an in-house tax function
  • Have prepared or reviewed tax provisions, returns, or complex tax analyses
  • Can explain the reasoning behind a tax position, not just the conclusion
  • Are comfortable working across different tax types or jurisdictions
  • Enjoy flexible, independent contract work

Compensation: Hourly rate is up to $90 USD. Specialised expertise in areas such as international tax, tax provision, or transfer pricing may command higher rates. Retainer structures are available for ongoing engagements.
