The Role:

It's an exciting time for us - Market Data collects, stores and distributes financial data from over 250 exchanges globally in real time and we are underway on our journey of moving functions and services to a cloud platform. While our environment is changing, you’ll be helping to monitor the application stack and infrastructure, collaborating with other Morningstar teams and 3rd party vendors to investigate and address issues. You’ll be making sure our monitoring coverage and visibility to issues does not diminish, and will also be instrumental in deploying new software, representing the team in infrastructure projects, including cloud migration initiatives. Through this you'll have the opportunity to directly influence and contribute to the design and implementation of new tooling and automation of team processes. This position is based in our London office.

Hours of Work:

You’ll be required to work 40hrs a week. After an initial training period, you will graduate to join a shift rotation that can include late finishes and weekend work at points. You may also find shifts coincide with Public/Bank Holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the London and Mumbai squads to provide excellent and seamless 1st and 2nd line support of detected issues, taking corrective action or escalating further as appropriate.
  • Actively identify gaps in Ops monitoring and tooling, and work with the appropriate team to implement effective solutions.
  • Respond to both internal and external requests effectively and efficiently, ensuring they are resolved within a timely manner.
  • Deploy, configure and test new software/updates to the Market Data application stack on behalf of Development teams.
  • Create and/or update documentation as needed, to maintain Ops knowledge base.
  • Undertake such training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.

Requirements:

  • With the nature of the role, we’ve found that candidates who offer logical thinking with solid troubleshooting capabilities, with a desire to identify and address underlying issues make a strong start.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a Technical Operations / SRE role.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server flavours and Wintel hardware.
  • Knowledge of network stacks, protocols and technologies.
  • Demonstrative competency in scripting with Powershell and/or Python.
  • Experience with Enterprise and open source monitoring tools such as Splunk or New Relic.
  • Experience of working with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub, Bitbucket, Harness, Kubernetes, Terraform.
  • Experience of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding IT environment with a strong focus on business outcomes.
  • Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders.
  • Any experience in the financial services industry is also a plus.
