About the Role

Our client's services play a critical role in shaping safe, efficient, and compliant projects. As Operations Manager you will lead the consultancy division, ensuring strategies, people, and sub-consultants deliver exceptional results for both clients and the wider business. This is a senior leadership role for a high performer who thrives on strategic thinking, accountability, and commercial delivery. You will combine client relationship management, financial oversight, and team leadership to drive projects that protect lives and raise standards across the sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead consultancy operations, ensuring alignment with the organisation's wider business objectives and methodologies.
  • Own and develop key client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and delivering value through technical expertise and insight.
  • Provide accurate forecasting of project costs, resources, and programme milestones, maintaining accuracy within 10%.
  • Ensure consultancy projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest compliance standards.
  • Drive financial performance by protecting margins, managing sub-consultant input, and ensuring value for money.
  • Support business development activities with expert input on scope, compliance, and programme considerations.
  • Negotiate effectively with clients and sub-consultants, justifying costs and demonstrating value.
  • Select, manage, and develop high-performing sub-consultants to ensure capacity, capability, and accountability.
  • Mentor and coach consultancy staff, contributing to appraisals, professional development, and performance management.
  • Innovate and streamline processes to enhance efficiency and delivery performance.
  • Work collaboratively with delivery teams to ensure smooth transition from consultancy to works phase.
  • Resolve project challenges to full completion, both internally and externally.
  • Produce structured client reports and maintain accurate records within CRM systems.
  • Promote and embed consistent project methodologies across all consultancy operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong background in consultancy or project management within construction, M&E, or fire protection.
  • Proven ability to lead project strategy and execution from scope through to delivery.
  • High level of commercial awareness and financial acumen.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to build trust and influence stakeholders.
