Senior Design Manager – Morgan Sindall Infrastructure

Location: Rugby / Swynnerton – to cover projects Nationwide

The Role

A Senior Design Manager is required to expand our in‑house Design Management capability for upcoming allocated projects. You will manage the design aspects of tenders and projects in progress.

We’re looking for an individual with a strong background in the Energy sector, ideally with specific experience in substation projects. You’ll bring a solid understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract, along with proven experience in the effective management of Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contracts. Your ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams – including external design consultancies – will be key to ensuring successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design process from bid through to delivery, ensuring appropriate resource, skills, and structure are in place.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive design strategy aligned with project objectives, commercial requirements, and sustainability targets.
  • Oversee coordination of multidisciplinary design teams and ensure compliance with RIBA stages, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Ensure design outputs align with the project programme, cost plan, and defined specifications.
  • Manage design reviews, change control processes, and interface with key stakeholders including clients, contractors, and statutory bodies.
  • Maintain adherence to internal design management procedures and deliver continuous improvement and innovation throughout the design lifecycle.

The Candidate

  • HND/HNC/degree
  • Member of an industry recognised professional institute (e.g., CIOB)
  • Involvement with design strategy and approach
  • Experience on both single stage tenders and preferred terms work procurement routes
  • Experience on bidding and winning work

About Our Energy Business Unit

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators. Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair and refurbishment services.
