We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Senior Design Manager to join our team on the Wixams Station project, delivered through the Eastern Routes Partnership for Network Rail. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to further develop their skills and take on increased responsibility across a high profile, multidisciplinary scheme. Wixams Station is a new-build station on the Thameslink/Midland Main Line near Bedford, progressing under the Network Rail PACE framework and moving into the ES3 Option Selection stage. Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is engaged as the civils and station contractor, with responsibility for leading the development of the design.
Role Responsibilities
- Procure, appoint, and manage the design partner, ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards and the PACE framework.
- Lead and coordinate all aspects of design development across the project lifecycle.
- Manage and integrate contractor inputs to meet programme, cost, quality, and deliverable requirements.
- Work closely with the Senior Project Manager and Engineering Manager to embed constructability into all design outputs.
- Proactively identify opportunities to optimise delivery, improve efficiency, and reduce project risk through design solutions.
- Oversee effective communication and collaboration between designers, suppliers, and key project stakeholders.
- Ensure all design elements are fully integrated, technically robust, and aligned with project objectives and engineering requirements.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering large, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects (rail sector experience desirable).
- Strong understanding of the PACE framework, including stage deliverables, governance, and assurance requirements.
- Background in managing design teams and external consultancies to ensure programme, quality, and deliverable commitments are met.
- Experience leading stakeholder engagement and interface management across multiple engineering disciplines and suppliers.
- Demonstrated ability to manage design development through GRIP or PACE-style stage-gated processes.
