We have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Cost Manager to join our Energy business on the National Grid Great Grid Partnership (GGP) framework. This high‑profile, nationally significant programme will play a key role in strengthening and future‑proofing the UK’s electricity network.

Working within a supportive, high‑performing environment under a long‑term Enterprise Agreement, you will support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects and provide effective commercial support as the programme progresses through the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase. Role Responsibilities

  • Take the commercial lead within a geographically focused team, providing expert commercial support to ensure successful delivery of contracted works.
  • Produce accurate, timely commercial reports and provide sound commercial advice to the management team, ensuring contracts meet agreed financial and performance targets.
  • Lead subcontract procurement, administration, and management, including negotiation and final account settlement.
  • Manage, support, and develop project commercial staff, ensuring effective resourcing and delivery of commercial objectives.
  • Take ownership and accountability for achieving internal and external commercial targets across assigned projects.
  • Engage proactively with project stakeholders, including the Client’s commercial team, to maintain strong working relationships.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all commercial and financial data communicated to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify, manage, and elevate current and potential commercial risks and issues to the leadership team in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with approved company processes, procedures, Project Execution Plans, and Collaborative Management Plans.
  • Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the quality and performance of the Quantity Surveying function.
  • Manage change control processes effectively, both upstream and downstream, ensuring commercial impacts are captured and agreed.
  • Deliver accurate and timely cost reporting, forecasting, and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge and awareness of finance systems, such as COINS, to support robust commercial control.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience providing commercial advice to support the delivery of contracted works within a defined element of a project.
  • Proven ability to produce accurate and timely commercial reports, forecasts, and advice to support management decision‑making.
  • Experience in subcontract procurement, administration, and management, including final account preparation and agreement.
  • Capability to support or oversee project commercial staff, contributing to effective team performance and delivery of commercial objectives.
  • Strong understanding of achieving and supporting internal and external commercial targets on live projects.
  • Experience engaging with project stakeholders, including client commercial teams, while maintaining professional and collaborative relationships.
  • Elevated level of accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation, management, and reporting of commercial and financial data.
  • Ability to identify emerging commercial risks or issues and elevate appropriately to senior team members or leadership.
  • Working knowledge of approved commercial processes, procedures, Project Execution Plans, and Collaborative Management Plans.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and development of Quantity Surveying best practice and functional performance.
  • Awareness and practical understanding of finance systems such as COINS or equivalent commercial platforms.
  • Experience managing change control processes, both upstream and downstream, with a clear understanding of commercial impact.
  • Strong skills in cost reporting, forecasting, and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.

About the Energy Business Unit

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators. Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
