The Equipment Quality Engineer supports the procurement and quality assurance of equipment for a process sector EPCM project, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Quality Engineer collaborates with vendors, procurement teams, engineering disciplines, and clients to maintain high-quality standards throughout the equipment procurement lifecycle, from supplier evaluation to delivery and installation.
Responsibilities
- Supplier Quality Assurance:
- Evaluate and audit equipment suppliers to ensure compliance with project quality requirements, codes, and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
- Review supplier quality plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and quality management systems.
- Conduct pre-qualification assessments and support supplier selection processes.
- Review and approve vendor documentation, including material certificates, welding procedures, non-destructive testing (NDT) reports, and fabrication records.
- Ensure equipment documentation aligns with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
- Maintain traceability of materials and equipment certifications.
- Coordinate and witness factory acceptance tests (FATs), performance tests, and other inspections at supplier facilities.
- Verify compliance with technical specifications, drawings, and contractual requirements during manufacturing and testing.
- Identify and manage non-conformances, working with suppliers to implement corrective actions.
- Interface with procurement, engineering, and construction teams to resolve quality-related issues and ensure alignment on equipment requirements.
- Provide quality input during technical bid evaluations and vendor negotiations.
- Report quality status, risks, and issues to project management and clients, ensuring transparency and timely resolution.
- Ensure equipment complies with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., PED, ATEX, FDA for pharmaceuticals, or local regulations).
- Support regulatory inspections and client audits related to equipment procurement.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality processes and supplier performance.
- Contribute to lessons learned and quality feedback loops for future projects.
Requirements
- HND, HNC or equivalent in mechanical or related field. Experience may be considered in place of qualification
- Significant experience in quality engineering or quality control, with some experience in equipment procurement for process sector projects (e.g., oil & gas, chemicals, mining, or pharmaceuticals).
- Strong understanding of industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO 9001, EN standards).
- Knowledge of equipment types common in process industries (e.g., pressure vessels, pumps, heat exchangers, reactors).
