We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Senior Engineering Manager to lead the development of a new station project as a Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM), progressing from outline design through to commissioning and handover. This flagship Network Rail scheme spans an estimated 3–4 years and offers an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to further develop their expertise while taking on increasing levels of responsibility.
Role Responsibilities
- Responsible and accountable for delivering Engineering Assurance across all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Function as the Project Engineering Manager, working with the project team to develop solutions that are safe by design, constructable, and maintainable.
- Maintain overall accountability for quality management, design management, and information management throughout the project.
- Collaborate closely with Heads of Discipline and the Project Manager to ensure technical governance, alignment, and compliance.
- Lead and manage engineering resources to meet project requirements and performance expectations.
- Contribute to all engineering activities at both pre‑contract and delivery stages.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and liaise on engineering matters.
- Ensure staff training, competency records, and compliance documentation are up to date and maintained.
- Support the mobilisation of new contracts and contribute to health, safety, quality, and environmental planning.
- Manage relationships with consulting engineers and internal teams to ensure coordinated delivery.
- Oversee design management activities and implement agreed design governance processes.
- Promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the business unit.
- Ensure adherence to regulations and support associated audits and reporting activities.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Previous experience as a CEM (Contractor’s Engineering Manager) — essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (e.g., ICE, IET, or equivalent professional body)
- Proven experience in design management and assurance within major infrastructure projects
- Senior‑level involvement in large project tender teams, including price and quality adjudications.
- Strong knowledge of commercial aspects, contracts, and procurement models
- Demonstrable record of managing design processes in both tender and delivery environments.
- Experience in the design and construction of Network Rail stations
