Position Summary
As the Deputy Quality Manager, you will assist and support the Senior Quality Manager with all quality matters. Monitor and report on quality KPI metrics. Be the lead contact within the Supply Chain, whilst managing a number of quality professionals within the project. Oversee quality in operational delivery and all site areas. Develop and implement quality best practice, ensuring compliance against the quality management system and industry standards. Ensuring all activities defined, planned and implemented are aligned to the Quality Policy, Strategy and Manual (Quality Programme). Maintain a level of independence to enable appropriate ability to challenge management and to act as the conscious of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing assurance that effective quality management systems, that are established and implemented, meet stakeholder requirements and enable delivery to meet customer specifications. Ensuring that the requirements of the Quality Programme are effectively communicated and implemented within their area of responsibility (for both on site and off site activities).
- Enhancing the quality culture by engaging with relevant stakeholders, delivery of appropriate level of communications, briefs and visits in order to increase understanding and importance of establishing a successful quality culture.
- Assisting in the delivery of the appropriate Nuclear Safety Education Package where required
- Providing confirmation that products/outputs/deliverables meet specified requirements – through certification and/or verification of inputs, processes and /or outputs (and ensuring the rejection of non-conforming materials, products or services).
- Establishing and implementing an appropriate Quality Assurance & Quality Control programme that supports the delivery of local objectives and incorporates a graded approach to inspection and testing, based on nuclear safety risk, to enable the most efficient use of resources.
- Development and implementation of an effective risk-based assurance plan (both internal and supply chain). Providing assurance with regard to the ability of suppliers to meet SL & PPP specified requirements.
- Escalating quality issues to the Senior Quality Manager in the first instance and/or the PPP/SL Head of Quality.
- Lead and undertake inspections, audits and investigations where required, reporting and implementing lessons learned and improvements
- Development, implementation and reporting Key Performance Indicators that effectively demonstrate the quality of delivery performance in their area of responsibility, in order to identify deviations and opportunities for continuous improvement and demonstrate the success/effectiveness of improvement programmes.
- Identifying, and where appropriate, implementing improvement plans in order to deliver sustained improvement in performance.
- Ensure compliance with internal processes and systems and provide coaching where appropriate to achieve ‘right first time’
- Ensure that project Quality Plans and Inspection & Test Plans are developed to deliver the client requirements
- Contribute to and be involved in project start-up meetings, subcontractor pre- contract and pre-start meetings
- Liaise with customer personnel on matters of quality and promote best practice solutions
- Lead and support the business during internal & external audits
- Be supportive of a team-work approach to encourage cooperative working by being open and honest
- Constructively challenge and intervene where quality is being compromised
- Monitor and manage adherence to the Project Quality Strategy
- Providing assurance that SL & PPP quality requirements are clearly communicated to suppliers, and that suppliers are delivering to our specifications. This includes testing that relevant specification requirements are cascaded and disseminated to appropriate levels within the supply chain.
- Enhancing the supply chain quality culture via engagement and delivery of communications, briefs and regular visits.
- Attending and contributing to all agreed Contract Opening up and Technical Review meetings and review of the associated Contractor/s and where required lower tier sub-contractors management system arrangements.
The Person
- Previous Experience in a Quality Management and project construction environment
- Member of the CQI
- Good understanding of corporate strategy, values and objectives
- Proven experience in a quality role or closely related environment. Previous experience working within the Nuclear Industry desirable but not essential.
- Previous experience of managing a team.
- Trained Lead Auditor (ISO 9001)
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001 management systems
- Self-motivated, to constantly improve upon established quality standards
- Demonstrable experience in construction or civil engineering standards and techniques
- Ability to work in team environment contributing across the division
- Good management skills with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to achieve high standards of compliance.
- Good operational planning and time management skills
- Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met.
- Ability to work with colleagues to deliver project and operational performance.
- Hybrid – Willing to work both on and off site (Role based at Cumbria, with occasional travel to Warrington due to project demands). Option to also work from home in line with project workload.
