Are you an Automation Engineer looking for the opportunity to build automation capability from the ground up?
Our client is a highly respected UK manufacturer investing heavily in advanced manufacturing technologies, robotics and Industry 4.0 initiatives. As part of a major transformation programme, they are seeking an Automation & Robotics Engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering new automation projects, driving continuous improvement and shaping future manufacturing standards.
Working alongside an experienced Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will become the technical lead for robotics and automation systems across the facility, supporting both current operations and significant future capital investment projects.
The Role
As Automation & Robotics Engineer, you will be responsible for introducing, developing and optimising automation solutions across the manufacturing operation.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the deployment and optimisation of robotic welding and assembly systems.
Taking ownership of existing collaborative robot applications and developing programmes for new products and processes.
Supporting the introduction and commissioning of new automated manufacturing cells.
Programming, modifying and improving robotic and PLC-controlled systems.
Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), installation and commissioning activities.
Developing automation standards, technical specifications and best practices for future projects.
Supporting the implementation of machine vision technologies and future Industry 4.0 initiatives.
Working closely with maintenance and production teams to improve reliability, performance and uptime.
Producing technical documentation, SOPs, backup procedures and control specifications.
Delivering training and knowledge transfer to operators, technicians and engineers.
About You
We are looking for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving real manufacturing challenges and delivering automation projects from concept through to production.
Essential
Experience working with industrial robotics and automated manufacturing systems.
Robot programming experience gained within a manufacturing environment.
PLC programming or modification experience.
Knowledge of automation safety standards and machine compliance.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
A proactive approach and willingness to spend time on the shop floor driving improvements.
Able to pass security clearance
