The Opportunity
As the site's subject matter expert for Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation, you will lead the development and enhancement of advanced manufacturing systems, including:
- PLC control systems
- SCADA platforms
- MES solutions
- Process instrumentation
- Variable speed drives and motor control systems
- Factory automation and digital integration technologies
You will be instrumental in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability and manufacturing performance through automation-led solutions. Working closely with Operations, Engineering and external technology partners, you will help deliver projects ranging from equipment upgrades and process improvements through to major capital investment and factory development initiatives.
Key Tasks
- Leading automation and process control improvements across the site
- Developing and supporting PLC, SCADA and MES systems
- Delivering engineering and capital projects from concept through to commissioning
- Driving reliability, performance and operational efficiency improvements
- Providing technical leadership on instrumentation and control systems
- Supporting digital transformation and smart manufacturing initiatives
- Managing contractors, suppliers and project stakeholders
- Creating and maintaining control system documentation and standards
- Coaching and developing engineering colleagues
- Contributing to a culture of safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence
Requirements
You will be an experienced automation or controls engineer who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
- Degree, HNC or HND qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Automation or related Engineering discipline
- Experience within manufacturing, process, food, chemical or similar industrial environments
- Strong knowledge of:
- PLC programming and control systems
- SCADA platforms
- Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
- VSDs and motor control systems
- MCCs and electrical systems
- Experience delivering engineering projects and system upgrades
- Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, reliability engineering methodologies, FMEA or RCM would be advantageous.
