We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Supply Chain Manager to join our chemical manufacturing business and take responsibility for the effective management and continuous improvement of our supply chain operations. This is a key role within the business, responsible for ensuring we have a reliable, cost-effective and compliant supply chain that supports our customers and operational teams.
The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers, logistics providers, purchasing, production, quality and commercial teams to ensure materials and products move efficiently through the wider supply chain.
The Role
- Manage and develop relationships with key suppliers and logistics partners.
- Lead supplier performance management, including service, cost, quality and delivery performance.
- Oversee purchasing and procurement activities, ensuring competitive pricing and reliable supply.
- Manage inbound and outbound logistics, including transport providers and freight arrangements.
- Monitor stock levels, inventory accuracy and working capital, identifying opportunities to reduce cost and improve efficiency.
- Ensure the supply chain operates in accordance with relevant chemical industry, health & safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Work with internal teams to resolve supply, delivery and supplier-related issues.
- Negotiate with suppliers and logistics providers to achieve commercial and service improvements.
- Develop and monitor supply chain KPIs and provide regular performance reporting to senior management.
- Identify supply chain risks and develop appropriate contingency plans.
- Lead continuous improvement projects across procurement, logistics and supply chain processes.
- Support the development and implementation of supply chain policies, procedures and systems.
- Manage and develop members of the supply chain/procurement team where applicable.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with strong practical experience in supply chain management, ideally gained within chemical manufacturing, process manufacturing or another regulated industrial environment. You will ideally have:
- Proven experience in a supply chain, procurement or logistics management role.
- Strong supplier relationship and negotiation skills.
- Experience managing logistics providers and transportation arrangements.
- A good understanding of inventory control and supply chain costs.
- Experience working within a regulated or compliance-focused manufacturing environment.
- Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound commercial decisions.
- Strong IT and data analysis skills, with experience using ERP/MRP or supply chain systems.
This role is focused on the broader supply chain - particularly suppliers, procurement, logistics, inventory, commercial performance, risk management and continuous improvement.
