Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in machine tools, special purpose machinery, or bespoke automated systems? This is an opportunity to join a highly respected precision engineering business designing and building complex, high-value machinery used in advanced manufacturing environments worldwide. If you enjoy designing real machines (not just components) and want to see your work go from concept through to build and commissioning, this role is for you.

Why Join?

  • Work on bespoke, one-off and low-volume machine builds
  • Be involved in the full lifecycle: concept β†’ design β†’ build β†’ commissioning
  • Join a business known for engineering excellence and precision
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, assembly, and commercial teams
  • Opportunity to make a real impact on design improvements and innovation

The Role

You will be responsible for the design and development of mechanisms, machine systems and complete special purpose machines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing new machine systems, mechanisms, and components
  • Modifying and improving existing machine designs to meet customer requirements
  • Working on machine tool design, tooling, and automated systems
  • Supporting manufacturing and assembly during machine build and commissioning
  • Producing detailed CAD models and engineering drawings
  • Managing BOMs and part releases via SAP
  • Conducting design reviews, DFMEA and PFMEA
  • Supporting technical bids and customer-facing documentation

Essential:

  • Min 5 years design experience in:
    • Machine tool design
    • Special purpose machinery (SPM)
    • Bespoke automated machines / production systems
  • Strong background in mechanism and machine design (not just static components)
  • Proven experience designing moving assemblies and complex systems
  • Ability to work across the full machine lifecycle

Also desirable:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3D CAD experience (Siemens NX - advantageous)
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and assembly support
  • Familiarity with DFMEA / PFMEA / design reviews

This is not a role designing small components in isolation. You will be creating high-precision machinery and automated systems that are critical to modern manufacturing. Your work will directly influence:

  • Machine performance
