*Must be prepared to work flexibly including some evening and weekend work as required

Location: Cambridge (potential travelling to other locations within and outskirts of city)

Role Purpose: Liaising closely with the Head of Department, the role will involve working with teams to embed equality and diversity, and to ensure that students with SEND and High Needs are provided with a clear and ambitious personalised curriculum embedding English and Maths within vocational learning. You will also ensure that support is provided for all students to achieve on their programme, and daily timetables of learning support are maximised to support high and excellent levels of achievement and attainment for students.

An enhanced DBS will be completed prior to starting this role

Key Duties:

  • Allocate staffing to students with High needs
  • Allocate staffing within the department to work closely with students requiring additional learning support through effective timetabling of learning support within the Department
  • Manage all Learning Support Mentors by holding regular 1:1 meetings and appraisals and to monitor performance
  • Deputising for the Head of Department at Directorate meetings, parent meetings and meetings with external stakeholders, including the Local Authority when required
  • Facilitate the review cycle for students with High needs and to manage high quality progress information in relation to vocational outcomes and English and maths
  • Champion inclusivity within the department, through effective mentoring with colleagues and model excellent inclusive practice in the classroom/workspace setting for all learning support
  • Deliver inspirational teaching and undertake up to 144 hours of ad-hoc teaching and cover teaching to ensure delivery of the curriculum is maintained
  • Act as a Course Tutor undertaking course responsibilities as agreed with the Head of Department
  • Attend promotional events to publicise activities, including those working with parent groups and the Preparing for Adulthood team within the local authority
  • Attend special school events and develop transition programmes to grow full cost income
  • Maintain personal research or professional practice in own specialist area for own personal professional development
  • Feedback to the Head of Department any identified staff training needs so that training can be put in place within the Department and/or wider setting

Key Skills/Experience Required:

  • A teaching certificate such as DTLLS or Cert Ed / PGCE
  • Extensive relevant experience working in specialist SEND education or post 16 training provider
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of successfully managing a large team
  • Management of HR policies, procedures and managing the wellbeing of staff to engage teams with all quality processes
  • Extensive implementation of advising and putting in place reasonable adjustments for students and inspiring high levels of adaptations to promote inclusion and access to the curriculum
  • Implementation of training programmes to develop learning support teams
  • Flexible, responsive and ability to work and adapt to change
  • Enthusiastic, motivational and positive approach
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to prioritise and maintain professionalism
