Job Title: Counsel – Professional Liability and Insurance
Location: London – Hybrid
Morgan McKinley is working with a leading international law firm seeking an experienced litigation lawyer to join its Risk & Legal team on an interim basis.
This role will sit within the firm’s Professional Liability function and report directly to the Head of Professional Liability.
The team advises on a wide range of legal and regulatory risk issues including claims, complaints, insurance, professional conduct, and regulatory matters.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established legal risk team at a prestigious global firm, supporting on contentious risk matters and gaining valuable in-house experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the management and reporting of professional liability claims
- Draft responses to client complaints and liaise with the Legal Ombudsman
- Investigate claims and manage simpler disputes independently; liaise with external counsel on more complex matters
- Track complaint and claims deadlines, ensuring timely resolution
- Assist with insurance notifications and renewals across PI and non-PI risks
- Provide input into internal and regulatory investigations
- Support on wider contentious matters including supplier disputes
- Ensure compliance with SRA Standards and other regulatory obligations
Candidate Requirements
- UK qualified solicitor with 5–7+ years’ post-qualification experience in civil/commercial litigation
- Experience in professional negligence, ideally including claims against law firms
- Knowledge of insurance coverage matters is advantageous
- Background may be from private practice or in-house (legal risk or general counsel’s office)
- Able to manage matters autonomously, with sound judgement and communication skills
- Adaptable, pragmatic and resilient, with the ability to work effectively in a high-performing team
- Previous experience in a large City or international law firm is desirable
