We are looking for a motivated person to join the Facilities Team based around central Oxfordshire. This is an excellent entry level opportunity for someone who wants to start a career in building maintenance, facilities operations, or engineering. You don’t need years of experience — just a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in hands-on work. We will provide full training and support to help you develop your skills.
About the Role
As a Junior Maintenance Technician, you will work alongside experienced team members to help keep our buildings running smoothly and safely. You’ll be trained in a wide range of tasks, from basic repairs to planned safety checks. With training and supervision, you will:
- Carry out basic building repairs and general maintenance.
- Support routine inspections and testing, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other safety equipment.
- Help complete logbooks, forms, and electronic records.
- Assist with the induction and supervision of external contractors.
- Respond to general helpdesk requests such as meeting room setups or moving furniture.
- Assist with small projects, including office/lab moves and refurbishments.
- Take part in an out of hours on call rota once fully trained.
Essential qualities:
- A genuine interest in maintenance, engineering, or practical hands-on work.
- Good problem-solving instincts and a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues.
- Confidence using hand tools (or a desire to learn).
- Able to carry out manual handling, such as moving equipment or furniture.
- Good communication skills and a friendly, respectful approach with colleagues and contractors.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently once trained.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- A full driving license (or working toward one).
Desirable (but not required — full training given):
- Any experience helping with DIY, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or building tasks.
- Experience in a facilities or maintenance environment.
- Basic understanding of planned preventative maintenance.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
