Our client is an international financial services business with a presence in over 15 countries. They have an exciting new opportunity for a new Group Legal Counsel to join a small team. The role of Group Legal Counsel will broadly comprise:
- Leading all project-based and day-to-day legal work for the group.
- Providing pragmatic and commercial legal advice to the group.
- Supporting the Chief Legal Officer.
The role would be suited to an intelligent, self-motivated and hard-working individual who is seeking a broad and dynamic scope of work in an interesting industry, and who wishes to be more involved with (and accountable for) the business side of law. In respect of the more sector-specific aspects of the role (such as sanctions and regulatory law), the Chief Legal Officer wishes to share his knowledge and experience with the candidate such that they can then lead on these topics.
Nature of the Role: Group Legal Counsel would carry out work in the following areas:
- Corporate: support on corporate transactions, heads of terms, project management, corporate governance, expansion into new jurisdictions.
- Commercial: drafting, reviewing, advising on and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements such as non-disclosure agreements, software licensing agreements, and services agreements.
- Compliance: support regarding the firm's FCA and DFSA regulated business and data protection.
- Sanctions: providing trade sanctions advice and undertaking client due diligence.
- Disputes: debt recovery, (high level) advice regarding charter party disputes.
- HR: drafting employment contracts, advising on global HR matters including staff relocations, visas and disputes.
- Legal Administration: record keeping and contract management.
