We’re working with a long-established, financially stable construction and property business that has built an excellent reputation for its people, customers and suppliers.
The business has been established for nearly 80 years, continues to grow year-on-year, and has ambitious plans for further expansion. It’s a company that genuinely invests in its people, with a strong long-term retention culture and a profit share scheme to ensure they share their success with their employees.
They’re now looking for an Accounts Payable Supervisor to lead a team of seven and take ownership of the day-to-day performance, accuracy and controls across the AP function.
The role
This is a great opportunity for an experienced AP Supervisor, or a strong Senior AP professional ready to take their next step into leadership.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Leading, coaching and developing a team of 7 AP Administrators
- Managing the day-to-day running of a busy, high-volume AP function
- Ensuring invoices are processed accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Maintaining strong financial controls and managing AP-related risk
- Overseeing supplier relationships, queries and payment processes
- Supporting month-end and year-end activities
- Monitoring team performance, workloads, SLAs and KPIs
- Managing absence, performance and development within the team
- Ensuring the team is sufficiently trained and empowered to resolve queries independently
- Supporting compliance with the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), including monthly HMRC returns
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce manual processing
- Working with operational teams to address non-compliance and strengthen processes
What are they looking for?
We’re keen to speak with people who have:
- Previous Accounts Payable supervisory/team leadership experience, or are ready to step up from a senior Accounts Payable position
- Strong knowledge of Accounts Payable controls, risk and compliance
- Experience working in a high-volume environment
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy
- The confidence to coach, challenge and hold people accountable
- A supportive but firm management style
- Good stakeholder and supplier management skills
- Strong Excel and financial systems experience
- Ideally, experience with CIS, subcontractor ledgers or a similarly complex compliance environment
You don't necessarily need to have worked specifically within construction, but experience of CIS, VAT, reverse charge or other complex financial compliance would be highly relevant.
There’s a lot happening within the finance function, including significant investment in systems and automation.
The business is working towards dramatically reducing manual processing, creating an opportunity for the successful candidate to help shape how the AP function operates and, over time, take on greater responsibility as the role evolves.
You’ll also be joining an established finance structure with dedicated teams across:
Accounts Payable | Credit Control | General Ledger & Management Accounts | Payroll
There is genuine scope for development and progression within the wider finance function.
What's on offer?
- Profit share – typically around 10%, with 14% paid last year
- Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days remote
- Long-term, people-focused culture
- Growing business with significant investment in systems and efficiency
