Duration - 10 months
Day rate - £850 per day PAYE
We are seeking a European VAT Manager based in London to work on VAT planning, compliance and documentation for both new initiatives as well as ongoing business activities throughout Europe.
Key job responsibilities
- This position will work closely with local business partners and members of the tax department to structure and understand transactions, new products and business launches.
- In order to be successful, the candidate must possess the ability to think strategically while also engaging in normal day-to-day tactical details.
- The candidate must have in-depth VAT technical knowledge with experience evaluating and advising on business initiatives, contemplated transactions, and business proposals.
- Should be able to support extremely complex audit and controversy projects in a hands-on and dynamic way.
This indirect tax planning team supports our international consumer stores business predominantly Marketplace and Fulfillment - These are the businesses that support third party sellers with the sale and fulfilment of goods.
The tax planning team provides planning and advisory input to support new business initiatives and also to drive organizational change to ensure compliance with changes in legislation. Notable previous changes include the introduction of the EU VAT on eCommerce package (and equivalent rules within other European countries), OECD Model Rules for Platforms (aka DAC7 for the EU) and the Centralized Electronic System of Payment information (CESOP). Upcoming legislation includes VAT in the Digital Age (VIDA) which introduces a Single VAT Registration Number in the EU.
This is a fast-paced/dynamic role and a typical day will rarely be the same. You will have the opportunity to build and maintain close working relationships with commercial teams, advising and shaping their go-to-market strategy on new business opportunities to ensure compliance with VAT requirements. You will also work with the broader tax group, including compliance, controllership, technology and tax engine teams to drive the delivery of customer obsessed solutions.
The indirect tax planning team is a diverse and supportive team, bringing together a broad range of backgrounds, experience and approaches to indirect tax. We are a closely knit and supportive team.
We are often at the forefront of emerging tax legislation; we have to take informed decisions where there is often no precedent and the ability to apply a broad knowledge of VAT is key to success.
We are also a customer obsessed organization, with indirect taxes understood throughout the business teams. A core part of the role is the ability to communicate and influence throughout the organization.
We have one of the largest in-house tax teams globally and this provides a great opportunity to gain in-house experience within a supported environment.
This position is not directly involved in day-to-day compliance but is responsible for assisting with the delivery of planning, real-time coordination, and communication of various tax-related projects as well as collaborating with business partner contacts. This includes drafting the appropriate level of documentation to support analyses performed, decisions made and conclusions reached for purposes of reporting and compliance.
