We are currently working with a long-established designer and manufacturer of mission-critical electrical systems into naval, defence and rail sectors.
The Role
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their technical team. In this role, you will lead the design and development of advanced electrical control systems, instrumentation, and specialist lighting solutions. You will be instrumental in ensuring products meet the rigorous safety and durability standards required for high-risk maritime and hazardous-area operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Innovation: Lead the design of electrical switchboards, control panels, and distribution systems for naval and industrial applications.
- Technical Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to international maritime standards, MOD specifications, and ATEX/hazardous area requirements.
- Project Lifecycle: Oversee the full engineering lifecycle, including requirements capture, technical drawings, prototype testing, and production support.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the manufacturing and assembly teams on-site to ensure designs are optimized for production.
- Obsolescence Management: Provide engineering solutions to upgrade legacy systems on long-service vessels and infrastructure.
Requirements
- Experience: Proven track record in electrical design within a regulated industry (e.g., Defence, Marine, Nuclear, or Aerospace).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrical CAD software and a deep understanding of control and instrumentation systems.
- Standards: Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards; experience with military-grade (Def Stan) or maritime engineering standards is highly desirable.
- Attributes: A proactive problem-solver who excels in high-pressure, mission-critical environments.
- Security: Due to the nature of our projects, candidates must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
