Looking for your next step in finance? Want a varied role where you can take ownership, develop your skills and make a real difference?

We're recruiting a Finance Assistant - Sales Ledger & Credit Control on behalf of a growing, family-owned business based in Bristol.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established and expanding business, supporting a close-knit finance team in a varied position combining sales ledger, accounts receivable, credit control and reporting.

Importantly, this isn't just a traditional credit control role.

You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of customer accounts, build relationships across the business and help improve finance processes as the company continues to grow.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include

  • Processing and raising customer invoices and credit notes.
  • Maintaining accurate customer accounts and sales ledger records.
  • Allocating customer payments and investigating unallocated cash.
  • Reconciling the sales ledger and issuing customer statements.
  • Proactively managing outstanding debt and chasing overdue payments.
  • Building relationships with customers to resolve invoice queries and payment disputes.
  • Negotiating payment plans and escalating problematic accounts where necessary.
  • Supporting aged debt reporting, cash collection forecasts and month-end processes.
  • Assessing new customer credit applications and assisting with credit limits.
  • Working closely with Sales and Customer Operations to resolve issues affecting payment.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve existing finance processes, systems and procedures.

You’ll be encouraged to work autonomously, take ownership of your responsibilities and contribute ideas to improve the wider finance function.

What We’re Looking For

We're keen to speak with individuals who have previous experience in a finance or accounts administration, ideally with exposure to both sales ledger and credit control.

You’ll ideally have

  • Previous experience in sales ledger, accounts receivable and/or credit control.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence dealing with customers and resolving payment queries.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and an ERP/finance system such as Sage, SAP or Dynamics.
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently and take ownership.

Experience across both sales ledger and credit control would be advantageous.

However, candidates with a strong background in either area will also be considered if they are keen to develop their wider finance experience.

AAT studies or an interest in pursuing a finance qualification would be beneficial, but isn’t essential.

What’s On Offer?

  • 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Private healthcare cash plan.
  • Study support
  • Death-in-service insurance.
  • Free onsite parking.
  • Opportunities for further training and development, including AAT.
  • The opportunity to join a growing business where you can genuinely influence and improve finance processes.
  • A varied position offering exposure to different areas of finance and the wider business.
