Reporting into the Finance Director, the role of Head of Payroll is a permanent position and will be responsible for the accurate and timely payment of all employees via the outsourced payroll bureau service, ensuring the accurate and timely payment of salaries as well as payment of all on-costs and completion of month and year-end returns and for producing management information data required by the internal and external auditors.

As the Head of Payroll you will also be responsible for managing a team as well as ensuring correct implementation of changes in taxation, pension obligations and any other government mandated payments or deductions. Working as part of the finance team, day to day your role will include:

  • Accountable for management of the outsourced payroll bureau service, managing service delivery, performance, and contract compliance
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with HMRC, pension schemes (e.g. TPS, LGPS), and employment legislation
  • Producing payroll information for internal and external audits and surveys
  • Manage payroll-related projects, including system changes and legislative updates
  • Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal guidance
  • Provide expert advice and escalation support on payroll queries and complex cases

To be considered for the role you will need to be an experienced payroll professional with a minimum of 5 years experience gained in a public sector environment. Experience of managing a team is also a requirement for the role. The role is mainly office based, with 4 days a week required in the West London office. The salary on offer is Β£60,000.
