About the Company
A growing specialist contractor operating within passive fire protection, delivering works across fire stopping, fire doors and compartmentation on projects nationwide. The business has a strong pipeline and operates with a close-knit, high-visibility team, offering far more responsibility than larger contractors.
The Opportunity
This role can suit either a Junior QS looking to step up or an established QS wanting more ownership and visibility. You’ll join a small commercial function that is expected to grow into a 2–3 person team, giving you a clear pathway for progression. You will be heavily involved in the day-to-day commercial running of projects; ideal for someone who wants to be close to the numbers and decision-making. This role is not suited to candidates from large (£80m+) tier contractors who are used to being a small part of a big structure. Here, you’ll be visible, trusted, and relied upon.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily valuation of works across multiple live projects
- Cost tracking, forecasting and reporting
- Managing and reviewing labour and timesheets
- Subcontractor procurement, payments and account management
- Supporting variations, applications and final accounts
- Working closely with operations to track site progress
- Maintaining accurate commercial records
What We’re Looking For
For Junior QS:
- 1-3 years’ experience or relevant degree with placement
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- Eagerness to learn and develop
For QS:
- Proven experience managing project commercials
- Confident with valuations, variations and subcontractors
- Able to operate independently within a small team
For both:
- Construction background (ideally subcontractor or specialist works)
- Strong Excel skills and commercial awareness
- Ambitious, proactive and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
Why Join?
- Clear progression as the commercial team expands
- High level of responsibility from day one
- Direct access to decision-makers
- Faster development than large corporate environments
- Stable, growing sector (fire compliance & safety)
Benefits
- Free gym membership
- Private healthcare
- Access to therapy / wellbeing support
- Supportive working environment with genuine work-life consideration
Working Environment
- 100% office-based in Peterborough
- Collaborative, tight-knit team
- Real impact and visibility in your role
