Salary: £12.71 per hour

Hours: 5 days over 7, must be fully flexible.

About the Role:

We are looking for a reliable Kitchen Assistant to join a busy catering team at a school in Canterbury. You’ll help maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the school kitchen, supporting the wider catering team with dish washing, surface cleaning, waste removal, and basic food preparation as required. Occasional late finishes or additional hours may be necessary, depending on the school’s needs.

Responsibilities

  • Washing and cleaning dishes, utensils, trays and kitchen equipment
  • Keeping kitchen areas, work surfaces and equipment clean and hygienic throughout the day
  • Supporting with basic food preparation, such as washing, peeling and chopping ingredients when required
  • Assisting the catering team with the preparation and service of meals
  • Emptying bins and ensuring waste is disposed of correctly
  • Keeping floors, sinks and other kitchen areas clean and free from hazards
  • Following food hygiene, health and safety procedures at all times
  • Ensuring cleaning products and equipment are used safely and correctly
  • Helping with deliveries, stock rotation and putting away supplies when required
  • Working as part of the wider catering team to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly
  • Following instructions from the Catering Manager and wider school catering team
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene at all times

What you’ll need

  • An enhanced DBS certificate – either current or registered on the Update Service
  • Previous experience in a similar kitchen or cleaning role (desirable)
  • A strong work ethic and team-oriented attitude
  • Good time management and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions
  • A commitment to high standards of hygiene and safety
