We are currently partnering with a well‑established and growing transport and distribution business with a strong UK and European presence. As part of their continued expansion, they are looking to appoint a commercially focused freight professional to support growth within their forwarding division.

This role combines hands‑on freight forwarding with proactive business development, making it well suited to someone who enjoys both the operational and commercial aspects of the industry. You will be responsible for managing freight movements end‑to‑end while also developing new business across UK and European markets, building relationships with logistics managers, planners, and operational decision‑makers. The focus is on identifying and securing smaller, ad‑hoc business streams, converting them into repeat clients, and ultimately building your own portfolio.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage day‑to‑day freight forwarding operations across air, sea, and road
  • Handle quotations, pricing, and supplier negotiations
  • Arrange and oversee shipments from enquiry through to delivery
  • Liaise with carriers, agents, and customers to ensure smooth movement of goods
  • Generate new business opportunities through outbound activity and networking
  • Build relationships with logistics managers and supply chain contacts
  • Identify and convert ad‑hoc freight requirements into ongoing business
  • Manage and grow your own pipeline and client base
  • Work closely with internal teams to maintain service standards
  • Develop and present a structured plan for business growth

About you:

  • Experience within freight forwarding, logistics, or transport
  • Solid understanding of import/export processes and multi‑modal freight
  • Commercially aware with a proactive approach to business development
  • Confident building relationships and generating new opportunities
  • Resilient, self‑motivated, and results‑driven
  • Comfortable working in a target‑based environment
  • Ideally able to bring an existing network of industry contacts

This role will particularly suit someone who:

  • Is currently in a forwarding role but wants to move into a more commercial position
  • Feels limited by process‑driven environments or lack of earning potential
  • Wants to take greater ownership of their work and results

What's on offer:

  • Competitive basic salary with an uncapped commission structure
  • Significant earning potential linked directly to performance
  • Opportunity to build and develop your own client base
  • Clear scope for progression within a growing department
  • Autonomy in how you approach both operations and business development

While the role operates within standard working hours, it requires a proactive and driven mindset, with success linked to the effort and initiative you bring.

Additional information:

  • Office‑based role in East Kent
  • Languages beneficial but not essential
  • Candidates will be expected to present a 12-month business plan at interview
