Are you an experienced HR professional with strong ER expertise? Our client is seeking a dedicated Employee Relations Consultant to drive effective sickness absence management and support managers across Children’s Services with a wide range of employee relations matters.
About the Role
As part of a supportive HR team, you’ll deliver expert advice on absence management, disciplinaries, grievances, capability and complex casework. You’ll coach managers, guide investigations and panel hearings, and help shape and improve HR policy. You will also collaborate with Learning & Development to deliver training that strengthens ER capability across the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a mixed caseload of sickness absence and ill-health cases
- Coach managers to apply absence policies fairly and consistently
- Analyse absence data and draft action plans
- Act as a client manager for investigations
- Provide advice to investigating officers and hearing panels
- Deliver ER-related training
- Contribute to policy updates, templates and process improvements
- Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Support compliance with safeguarding, GDPR, H&S and equality standards
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of employment law and ER best practice
- Experience managing ER casework, including complex issues
- Confident advising managers at all levels
- Skilled in coaching, influencing and problem-solving
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and HR systems
- CIPD Level 3 required; Level 5 desirable
