About the Role
Are you currently selling structural steel or construction products and looking for your next challenge? Our client is an established and growing structural steel business looking to appoint an experienced and commercially driven Structural Steel Business Development Manager to help drive future growth. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys building long-term customer relationships, winning new business, and becoming a trusted partner to clients across the commercial and residential construction sectors. Working closely with estimating, production and operations, you'll manage projects from initial enquiry through to order placement, ensuring customers receive an excellent service throughout the sales process.
The Role
As Structural Steel Business Development Manager, you'll be responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities while nurturing existing customer relationships. This is a customer-facing role where you'll spend your time building relationships, preparing competitive quotations, following up opportunities, negotiating orders, and working closely with internal teams to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new business opportunities across the structural steel and construction sectors
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with contractors, developers, fabricators and other key decision makers
- Manage existing customer accounts, identifying opportunities to increase sales and secure repeat business
- Prepare accurate and commercially competitive quotations
- Follow up quotations and negotiate orders
- Manage projects from initial enquiry through to handover into production
- Work closely with estimating, production and operations to ensure smooth project delivery
- Maintain regular communication with customers throughout each project
- Monitor market activity and identify opportunities to grow market share
- Ensure all customer and project information is accurately recorded and maintained
- Deliver excellent customer service while protecting business margins
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong commercial awareness with excellent relationship-building skills. You'll ideally have experience selling into the structural steel or wider construction sector and be confident developing both new and existing customer relationships. Ideally, you'll have experience within one or more of the following:
- Structural steel
- Steel fabrication
- Steel stockholding
- Architectural steelwork
- Reinforcement steel
- Metal fabrication
- Construction materials
- Building products supplied into the construction industry
You’ll also have:
- Previous experience within business development, account management or technical sales
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to prepare competitive quotations
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- A proactive approach to developing new business opportunities
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and projects
- The ability to build credibility and long-term relationships with customers
- A full UK driving licence
