The Opportunity
Our client is a successful and well-established multi-site business operating across East Kent, with a strong reputation and an established team. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Senior Finance Manager to take overall responsibility for the finance function and play a key role within the senior leadership team. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll have a broad remit covering financial reporting, management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial controls, while also providing the commercial insight needed to support ongoing business performance and growth.
This isn't simply a role focused on producing the numbers. The business is looking for someone who can look at how the finance function operates, identify opportunities to improve systems and processes, and take the lead in introducing more efficient and modern ways of working. You'll have genuine visibility with senior management and the opportunity to influence how the business makes financial and commercial decisions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Take overall responsibility for the finance function across the business
- Produce accurate monthly management accounts and financial reporting
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process
- Manage cash flow and working capital
- Provide financial analysis and commercial insight to the Managing Director and senior leadership team
- Monitor financial performance and highlight trends, risks and opportunities
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll
- Maintain strong financial controls, processes and procedures
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
- Manage relationships with auditors, accountants and other external stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial and reporting requirements
- Review existing finance systems and processes, identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and automation
- Lead improvements to finance systems, reporting and controls
- Support, mentor and develop the existing finance team
- Drive continuous improvement across the wider finance function
- Work closely with other areas of the business to support operational and commercial decision-making
About You
We're looking for an experienced finance professional who is comfortable taking ownership of a finance function and operating at a senior level within a business. You may currently be working as a:
- Senior Finance Manager
- Finance Manager
- Financial Controller
- Head of Finance
- Senior Management Accountant
- Financial Accountant with wider commercial responsibility
You’ll ideally bring:
- Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience
- Experience taking ownership of budgeting, forecasting and cash flow
- Good understanding of financial controls and business performance
- Experience managing or developing a finance team
- The confidence to work directly with senior management and provide meaningful commercial insight
- Experience working within a multi-site or operational business environment
- A proactive approach to improving finance systems, processes and reporting
- The ability to identify inefficiencies and take ownership of implementing improvements
- Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
- ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualification would be desirable, although candidates who are qualified by experience are equally encouraged to apply.
