This organisation create mechanical and electrical design engineering solutions for sectors across the built environment including Education, Commercial, Hotel & Leisure and more. In recent years sustainability has been at the core of all their projects, building up a strong track record for environmentally friendly and cost-effective engineering solutions. They are currently seeking a Building Performance & Sustainability Engineer to join their team based in either Edinburgh or Glasgow. IES experience is essential.

Role:

  • Undertake building performance modelling and analysis to support design development and compliance
  • Carry out thermal modelling using dynamic simulation software (e.g. IES VE, TAS, DesignBuilder)
  • Assess energy performance, operational energy use, and carbon emissions across all project stages
  • Support compliance with Part L, EPCs, and relevant planning energy requirements
  • Undertake thermal comfort, overheating, daylight, and solar shading assessments
  • Contribute to passive design strategies, fabric optimisation, and low-energy design solutions
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, and summaries for clients, planners, and design teams
  • Work closely with architects and building services engineers to influence design decisions early

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Sustainability / Environmental Design, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience working in a building physics, sustainability, or building performance role
  • Strong understanding of building fabric performance, thermal comfort, and energy efficiency
  • Experience using dynamic thermal modelling software such as IES VE, TAS, DesignBuilder, or similar
  • Knowledge of UK building regulations and guidance, including Part L and SAP/SBEM
  • Experience undertaking energy, thermal, and overheating assessments
