The service works with individuals to identify and clarify their accommodation options, eligibility for support and entitlements, helping them navigate complex systems and access appropriate pathways out of homelessness. MAPS works collaboratively with local authorities, housing providers and specialist agencies to deliver person-centred support to individuals with varying needs and circumstances.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Specialist MAPS Caseworker to support non-UK nationals experiencing homelessness or at risk of rough sleeping across London. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of clients, undertake detailed assessments, explore accommodation and support options, and provide specialist advice around entitlements and available pathways. The role requires strong casework skills, an understanding of the challenges faced by migrant communities, and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of statutory and voluntary sector partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of non-UK nationals experiencing rough sleeping or at immediate risk of homelessness across London.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify clients' housing needs, support requirements, circumstances and eligibility for assistance.
  • Explore and clarify clients' accommodation options, entitlements and potential pathways out of homelessness.
  • Provide specialist casework, advice, advocacy and practical support to help clients access appropriate services and accommodation.
  • Work with local authorities, housing teams, immigration advisers, legal professionals and other specialist agencies to identify suitable solutions.
  • Support clients to navigate complex housing, welfare and immigration-related systems, referring to appropriately qualified professionals where specialist legal advice is required.
  • Develop individualised support and action plans, working with clients to identify realistic options and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with relevant agencies and challenge barriers to accessing appropriate support where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate case records, complete assessments and monitor progress against agreed outcomes.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, risks and issues relating to vulnerability or exploitation.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to promote a coordinated, person-centred approach.
  • Provide timely interventions to prevent rough sleeping and support sustainable routes out of homelessness.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience in homelessness, housing support, migrant support, complex needs casework or a similar frontline service.
  • Experience managing a caseload and undertaking assessments, support planning and case reviews.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by non-UK nationals experiencing homelessness.
  • Knowledge of housing options, homelessness pathways and the barriers individuals may face when accessing accommodation and support.
  • Ability to identify and explore eligibility for relevant support and entitlements, including understanding when specialist immigration or legal advice is required.
  • Experience liaising with local authorities, housing providers and external support agencies.
  • Strong communication, advocacy, assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise competing demands and maintain accurate case records.
  • A non-judgemental, person-centred approach, with a commitment to dignity, equality and inclusion.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries, confidentiality and risk management.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting non-UK nationals with complex immigration or residency circumstances.
  • Knowledge of the intersection between immigration status, housing eligibility, welfare entitlements and homelessness.
  • Experience working with people facing multiple disadvantages, including trauma, exploitation, mental health challenges or social isolation.
  • Knowledge of London homelessness services and relevant statutory and voluntary sector referral pathways.
  • Experience working within a specialist migrant, housing advice or homelessness outreach service.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for a proactive, resilient and empathetic caseworker who can navigate complex cases, build trusting relationships with clients and work effectively with partner agencies. The ideal candidate will have strong homelessness casework experience and the confidence to explore accommodation options and entitlements for non-UK nationals, helping individuals move towards safer and more sustainable outcomes.
